MapSearch Research

Research is the lifeblood of our company. Effective research requires tremendous effort, determined persistence and an unyielding attention to detail.

PennWell MAPSearch research department's advantage lies in its long-term history and association with the petroleum industry. In today's climate of mergers, acquisitions and downsizing, there are fewer people doing more jobs. Longstanding relationships with key personnel are critical to our ability to acquire quality information. We work with energy companies, both large and small, to obtain and verify information. These working relationships and our extensive map library enable us to offer comprehensive and reliable information.

Gathering the information is only the beginning. Pipeline logistics is like a giant puzzle. Often a simple change of product service in one particular line, or a new connection to an existing line, can change the product service for an entire system. The pipeline location is important, but it is the coupling of this geographic component with our knowledge of system logistics that makes us the premier source for pipeline information. Likewise, our researchers collect and aggregate complete, targeted data on electric power facilities, including transmission lines, generation plants, megawatt capacities, fuel types, substations and service areas.

Each day the PennWell MAPSearch staff contacts dozens of companies as part of ongoing surveys. In addition, we scrutinize industry trade magazines, journals, and other news sources to identify pending projects, project completions, ownership changes and other information relevant to our database. These items, in turn, initiate additional research calls.
